  • Kiwi: Best consumed with the skin for added health benefits.

Foods to Avoid

  1. Beans and Legumes: High in lectins, these should be soaked and cooked thoroughly if consumed. Pressure cooking or fermentation can lessen their lectin content.

  2. Grains: Many grains contain lectins and should be avoided. Ancient grains like millet and sorghum are preferable.

  3. Nightshades: Vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplants can be problematic. Proper preparation, such as peeling and cooking, can reduce their negative effects.

  4. Certain Fruits: Low-sugar fruits in season are preferred. Avoid high-sugar fruits like pineapple and papaya, especially out of season.

  5. Squash: Most varieties are high in lectins. If consumed, they should be peeled and seeds removed.

While leaky gut is often associated with gastrointestinal diseases like celiac disease and Crohn’s disease, it is not officially recognized as a standalone medical diagnosis. Factors contributing to leaky gut include poor diet, high in sugar and processed foods, chronic stress, and certain medications.
